When we are afraid, we make a choice. There is light, and then there is darkness. There is fear, and then there is hope.
We are trudging tepidly down a tunnel of uncertainty – chaos even. While there is no playbook, there are distinct paths you can choose to go down. We could choose to look out for ourselves, or to assist our fellow humans.
When you walk into the grocery store today, you see much more than half-bare shelves. You can see fear. Eyes diverted to the ground, instinctual dirty looks at the sound of a sneeze, confusion, exhaustion. An unsettling lack of human connection that we’ve taken for granted all of our lives. Social distancing personified.
But the truth is, despite this fear, the saying “we are all in this together” has never rung truer. Globally, across cultures, races, gender, age, and creeds, we are united by our humanity. It is our duty as a citizen of earth to do right by mankind and help – even when we have nothing to give. During these times, the fastest way to feel better is to help others. And during a pandemic, with a lock-down, maybe it’s all we can do?
Whether in your community, company, neighborhood, church, or social group, there is good work to be done. To be clear, Placers is not immune to the challenges of today. We’re facing reductions in business, have had to say goodbye (hopefully temporarily) to members of our team, and are taking each day as it comes. We’re going to fight with all that we have and make sacrifices for the greater good of the Placers family. All that to say, things are tough for us too – and the best thing we can do is continue to give back despite the circumstances.
