Tracy Davidson on why the best stories aren’t found on the screen, but within ourselves.
“Whatever it is they’ve been afraid to do or thought that they couldn’t do it, I hope they leave braver than when they came in.” — Tracy Davidson
I recently sat down with Tracy Davidson, a name synonymous with trusted news in the Philadelphia region for a distinguished, multi-decade career. If you’ve spent any time in the Mid-Atlantic, you’ve likely seen Tracy guiding viewers through everything from consumer investigations to breaking news.
But while the world saw an award-winning anchor, Tracy was living a dual life: navigating the high-speed, often chaotic demands of a major newsroom while quietly building a personal foundation of resilience. Now, she has transitioned into a new chapter focusing on a mission to help people, particularly women in business, prevent burnout and reclaim their agency.
Three Lessons on Living with Intention
- You are the Architect of Your Own Sunshine. Tracy grew up in a household defined by substance abuse and chaos. She shares that her “superpower” emerged from finding peace in the radio, a place where she could listen and learn. She reminds us that external validation is a trap; true conviction comes from internal work. As she tells her students: “Make your own sunshine.” You don’t need to look to your boss, your partner, or social media to define your worth.
- The “Temporary Incompetence” Growth Edge. After decades of professional mastery, Tracy is embracing a new season of life where she feels like a beginner again. She calls this “temporary incompetence.” For high achievers, this can be uncomfortable, but Tracy argues it is the most exciting place to be. If you aren’t occasionally feeling like you don’t know the answer, you aren’t growing. The thrill of the “unknown” is exactly what fuels her curiosity today.
- The Power of the “Time Audit.” We all say we want more time, but Tracy challenges us to look at where our time actually goes. By breaking your day into 15-minute chunks and comparing how you spend your time against your stated priorities, you can quickly see if you are living with intention or just reacting to the noise. If the two lists don’t match, it is time to adjust the sails.
Try This This Week
Conduct a Reality Check. Write down your top three priorities, the things that really matter to you. Then, for the next 48 hours, keep a rough log of how you spend your time. Are you scrolling through social media while your priorities sit on the back burner? Use the gap between those lists to make one intentional adjustment this week.
