‘Tis the Season: 5 Tips for Landing a Temporary Job
It’s that time of year again—seasonal positions are open and waiting! Whether you’re looking for a temporary job or a part-time gig to supplement your income, seasonal roles are a great opportunity to build your resume and learn some new skills. As large companies hire hundreds to thousands of employees for the upcoming holiday season and cold weather, here are some tips and tricks we’ve compiled to help you land that job.
Apply Now. The age old adage, “To be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late” applies here. Hiring Managers are looking to fill positions promptly to be full prepared for the upcoming season. Many companies have streamlined the process by having applications readily available on their websites. Do your research and apply early to ensure your success!
Seasonal Doesn’t Just Mean Retail. Many other types of companies hire extra staff during this busy time of year. Restaurants, warehouses, shipping companies and offices boost their employee numbers for the busiest time of the year. Internet retail giant Amazon said that they’ll be hiring over 80,000 warehouse workers for the upcoming season.
Don’t Worry About Lack of Experience. Don’t have any retail or previous industry experience? Don’t fret! Hiring Managers are more interested in attitude in work ethic—be yourself and be confident when meeting with future employers. Remember that skills can be taught but personality can’t!
Prepare to Be Flexible. The best way to stand out from other candidates is to be flexible. Seasonal hours typically vary from day-to-day and aren’t usually your standard 9-5 lifestyle.
Plan Ahead. Remember that a seasonal or temporary position can turn into a permanent placement. Put your best foot forward and set yourself up for success to be considered for a full-time role later on down the line. Do your best and make sure that your positive attitude is reflected in your work!
